#DearCherie, I feel like I’ve lost myself in my relationship and in my family. I have three kids and always think about myself last. How can I maintain my individuality while being in a committed partnership and family?

In a relationship or family setting, our perception of what that should look like can be unclear in today’s world. As a mother, you play the ultimate role of a leader. You have the opportunity and the ability, if you choose, to see each person within your family as an individual with their own unique gifts and talents, and to support them in their growth.

Just like our mother earth provides a nurturing foundation for life to flourish, you too can provide that foundation within your family circle. It’s important to recognize the significance of your own role within that circle. Each member, including yourself, should be equally valued and supported, creating a harmonious and complete circle.

Losing your identity within a relationship means you may be dancing with someone (your partner) who is constantly stepping on your toes. It may lead to a sense of imbalance where one person is taking without giving in return. This can stem from past trauma and unhealthy relationship patterns that need to be addressed and healed.

Maintaining your autonomy and uniqueness is crucial not only for your own well-being but also to keep the spark alive in your relationships. Just as you need to feel fulfilled and valued, your partner and family members also benefit from your sense of self and individuality.

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and lose sight of ourselves. We have been neglecting our children to become, which is unfair to them and only continues the cycle.

I want to tell you that you can have it all! By prioritizing and organizing your time effectively, you can create a balance that allows you to thrive in both your personal and family life. Remember, time is just an illusion – it’s how you choose to use and expand it that truly matters.

Love and light,

Cherie Doyen
